You\u2019re already ahead of the game. However, there are still some things people forget\u2014and that just adds to move-day stress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fortunately, you can prevent that added stress as long as you keep track of the most commonly forgotten items when moving. Feel free to use this as a checklist of what not to forget as your move day nears! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Keys<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This might sound silly, but there\u2019s a good reason that keys are number one on this list. Keys are some of the most commonly forgotten items during a move. Maybe you thought you put them into your go-to jacket pocket or purse, but now they seem to be missing in action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep track of your keys. And that goes for the keys to your new home as well as the place you\u2019re moving out of. Remember that your move crew will be on the clock once they start the move, so if they have to stand around while you search for your keys, you\u2019re wasting both time and money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plan ahead and have your keys at the ready before your move\u2014even if that means meeting with your new landlord before your move day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Items hidden away inside closets and drawers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>People have all sorts of miscellaneous items stashed away in closets and drawers throughout their home. If you\u2019re hiring a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.move-tastic.com\/chicago-moving-company\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">local mover<\/a>, they\u2019ll ask you to empty all drawers before they start loading your furniture onto their moving truck. And if you\u2019re moving yourself, you\u2019ll have to empty those nooks and crannies anyway!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are a few examples of items that you might have hidden inside closets and drawers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Clothing, shoes, and linens inside closets.<\/li><li>Toiletries, medications, and cleaning supplies inside your bathroom vanity or medicine cabinet.<\/li><li>Random items you\u2019ve accumulated in your favorite junk drawer.<\/li><li>Important documents or even some cash that you\u2019ve hidden away.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Since some of these commonly forgotten items could be important or sentimental, make sure you give yourself some extra time to go through each piece. And if you\u2019re ready to part with it, recycle, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mymove.com\/moving\/guides\/clothes-donation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">donate<\/a>, or toss it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Patio furniture and other outdoor items<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Moving your home doesn\u2019t just apply to the inside of your house. You have to pack and move all of your outdoor belongings, too! When you request your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.move-tastic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">moving estimate<\/a>, be sure to include all items in your front yard, backyard, and garage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although your movers will wrap and transport most patio furniture, they will not be able to take some grill components such as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.movebuddha.com\/blog\/moving-a-propane-tank\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">propane tank<\/a> with them. Also be sure to ask about any plants you might have. Some movers will transport them and some won\u2019t, so call your moving company ahead of time to find out what they will and won&#8217;t transport for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Cables and remotes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It can be hard to keep track of cables and remotes even when you\u2019re not moving. And if not, pack those items into a box clearly labeled \u201cELECTRONICS\u201d or \u201cTV REMOTE AND CABLES\u201d.<\/li><li>Pack your laptop with all of its cables, too. If you don\u2019t have the original packaging or a laptop bag, stick the cables into that same \u201cELECTRONICS\u201d box.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Pro tip: before you disassemble your TV, streaming devices, and game consoles, take pictures of what cables plug into which ports. It\u2019ll make life easier when you get to your new place!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Cleaning supplies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Regardless of whether you\u2019re moving out of an apartment, condo, or house, you might go back to your former dwelling one last time after your move to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moving.com\/tips\/your-easy-move-out-cleaning-checklist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">clean for the next resident<\/a>. Since many people ask their move crew to leave the cleaning supplies behind, it\u2019s common for them to be forgotten completely.
